Junior Technical Account Executive
About the role
You have invested in developing strong technical skills through a background in chemical engineering, chemistry, materials science, or a related scientific field. You understand how engineers and researchers think, how technical problems are evaluated, and how important it is to communicate complex information clearly.
The Role:
As a Junior Account Executive at Thermtest, you help scientists, engineers, and technical teams identify the right thermal measurement solutions for their applications. You combine your technical understanding with your natural ability to educate, build relationships, and guide customers through purchasing decisions.
This role is designed for someone who wants to transition from a laboratory, engineering, research, or technical environment into a commercial career with greater earning potential and long-term advancement opportunities.
You’ll manage a significant portion of Thermtest’s inbound sales opportunities, acting as the primary point of contact for prospective customers with standard or early-stage requirements. Every scientist or engineer who contacts Thermtest deserves a knowledgeable and professional response, and you will help ensure they receive one within our four-hour service-level commitment.
What You Do:
Own inbound inquiries from scientists, engineers, researchers, and technical buyers Asking thoughtful questions to understand each customer’s materials, testing requirements, application, and business needs Educating prospective customers on Thermtest instruments, testing capabilities, and potential solutions Qualifying opportunities and determining the appropriate next step Preparing quotations, coordinating demonstrations, and supporting customers through the sales process Managing follow-up activities and maintaining accurate opportunity information Working closely with senior sales, technical, and leadership team members on more complex opportunities Developing the commercial skills required to manage increasingly valuable and sophisticated accounts Prepare accurate quotes for standard instrument configurations and coordinate demonstrations with our lab team Maintain CRM hygiene in HubSpot, logging all activities and next steps Contribute to our North American market intelligence by documenting workflows, customer questions/feedback and workflows Approximately 1-2 customer visits per month within Canada and the United States
Who You Are:
You don’t need to be an experienced salesperson. You do need to be technical, comfortable communicating with people, responsive, organized, and motivated to learn.
You receive direct training and will shadow live customer conversations, learn how technical purchasing decisions are made, and receive practical coaching in discovery, solution selling, objection handling, negotiation, and account management.
Over time, you’ll mature into a full-cycle Account Executive capable of managing opportunities- from the first customer inquiry through technical evaluation, proposal, negotiation, and close.
This role may be a fit for you if:
You have education or experience in chemical engineering, chemistry, materials science, mechanical engineering, physics, or another technical discipline You enjoy explaining technical concepts and helping others understand complex information You are interested in sales but want to remain connected to science, engineering, and technology You want a career path with stronger earning potential than many traditional laboratory or technical roles You are confident speaking with scientists, engineers, laboratory managers, and technical decision-makers You are motivated by measurable performance, personal development, and professional advancement You want direct exposure to company leadership and hands-on commercial training
This is an opportunity to build on your technical foundation rather than leave it behind. Use your scientific knowledge to establish credibility, educate customers, solve real problems, and develop a rewarding career in technical sales.
