Who We Are Looking For: The Senior Building Performance Analyst will lead the analysis and optimization of building systems to improve energy efficiency, sustainability, occupant comfort, and operational performance. They will provide technical support to project teams and collaborate closely with architects, clients and others to evaluate building performance through modeling, simulation and data analysis throughout the design and operational project phases. Our preferred candidate will have an advanced degree in Building Science with at least 5 years’ experience in building performance modeling or energy analysis tools, a strong understanding of building energy theory and research methodology and working knowledge of construction practices. The ideal candidate also has experience working on high-performance or net-zero energy/carbon buildings, daylight analysis, thermal comfort and airflow modeling as well as credentials such as Building Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP) and ASHRAE High-Performance Building Design Professional (HBDP). What Your Day Could Consist Of:
- Modeling and analyzing energy/carbon use in buildings in compliance with program guidelines or code requirements.
- Evaluating code requirements and propose interpretations, as applied to energy/carbon savings opportunities.
- Performing life cycle cost analysis (LCA) of energy and carbon efficiency measures.
- Collaborating with architects, engineers and sustainability specialists to integrate performance goals into building design.
- Assisting in developing and maintaining excellent relationships with existing and potential clients through project work.
- Driving business development efforts by identifying new opportunities, strengthening client relationships and supporting proposals, budgets and project schedules.
- Serving as a though leader and sustainability advocate for Populous at conferences and professional forums.
Requirements For Success:
- Proficient at energy modelling using IES-VE (preferred) and/or other energy-related software like EnergyPlus, ClimateStudio, DOE-2, eQuest, etc.
- Knowledge of ASHRAE 90.1, IECC, CA Title 24 energy codes/standards.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to interpret building drawings and mechanical system designs.
- Knowledge of environmental rating systems like LEED, ILFI, Energy Star, etc.
- Strong understanding of project documentation related to energy systems and sustainable design, including energy modelling, LEED and ILFI documentation, calculations, specifications, and architectural and MEP drawings.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work effectively both independently and within a team environment.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to design teams and senior-level stakeholders.
- Comfortable taking initiative and leading efforts that shape and grow building performance as a business opportunity.
Essential Qualifications: Required:
- Accredited bachelor’s or master’s degree in architecture, mechanical engineering, or other building-related technical field required. Advanced degree in building science is preferred.
- 5+ years’ experience with building performance modeling or energy analysis tools.
- Experience in data collection, analysis, and providing technical recommendations across diverse projects.
- Strong understanding of building energy theory, principles, and practices, with proficiency in both qualitative and quantitative research methods.
- Working knowledge of construction practices and terminology, enabling effective collaboration with design and construction teams.
Preferred:
- Advanced degree in Building Science, Sustainability, or Energy Engineering.
- Credentials such as Building Energy Modeling Professional (BEMP), ASHRAE High-Performance Building Design Professional (HBDP), or equivalent.
- Experience working on high-performance or net-zero energy/carbon buildings.
- Experience with daylight analysis, thermal comfort and airflow modeling, and interactions between them.
Additional Details:
- Travel will be required.
Compensation:
- The projected salary range for this opportunity is $95,112 - $118,891 annually, and may be more or less depending on skills, experience and education.
This position will be open for a minimum of two (2) days and will remain open until filled. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the position is closed. In accordance with Colorado law, the posted salary range represents a good faith estimate of the compensation for this position. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, and qualifications. This position may also be eligible for additional compensation, including bonuses.
